Every December I like to take a birthday trip as my way to keep my special day from getting lumped in with Christmas.  I start planning the trip in July so when my birth week arrives we just have to pack and go because everything is already planned.

This year we stopped over in New York to spend an evening riding trains, seeing Christmas lights and dining with friends.  After that we stopped in the Dominican Republic at Nickelodeons Resort in Punta Cana.

Our four day three night stay was filled with fun.  Although we found a lot of ways to have fun with our kiddos, I would say if you are taking kids, avoid most of the excursions or go private.  Our concierge recommended a private boat but considering our family is pretty experienced snorkelers and fishermen we went with a group only to find that we were in a space were not accustom to lol.  There were lots of people smoking and getting super intoxicated.  I don’t mind the intoxicated because I had my fair share but I’m no fan of the smoke consuming the air.

On a great note, if you are looking for a lovely upscale trip, Nickelodeon was phenomenal!!  It had plenty of restaurants, a lovely dessert bar, swim up rooms and a waterpark filled with loads of fun!  Oh and lets not forget the days of “You can’t do that on Television” and getting slimed lol!!

The food was lovely from the buffet, dessert/coffee bar  to the Italian and Chinese restaurants there is something for everyone!  The Dominican may be a place for adult fun but Nickelodeon has defiantly made a place for family fun on the island.  It is full of beautiful people and natural sights like the cave we trekked through after arriving by dune buggy.
