What do you think when you Think Baby….

It’s been a little while since I’ve had to think baby,  but a group of gals excited me when I stumbled across their blog.  I have a few friends that have new babies, a few with buns in the oven and even more that are hoping a swimmer will meet their egg in the near future so I am dedicating this blog topic to them!#lisaslane

Zoe Withers, Josephine Peterson and Angela Jansen have created an amazing resource for moms and mommies to be.  Their site Thinkbaby.org is a place to go to get everything you need from baby food ideas to potty training hacks.  As I scrolled through the pages I thought back to a time when I would spend the whole day wardrobe shopping for my Kingston, only to realize that the first year of his life he wore nothing but onesies lol!  Had I been reading Think Baby I might have saved a few dollars after reading “Things you need (& don’t need) in your first 2 months with a newborn”.#lisas lane

Not only did the blog capture my attention with information on the do’s and don’ts but there is a complete guide on baby products with pictures and all!  I can’t say enough great things about this site. If you or someone you know is in baby land this is a great place to sip and see.  Have your coffee in the morning over a good read!#lisaslane

How to Travels-The Quarterly Calendar

Growing up in a military family travel in my life is almost as important as water. I remember the days when hopping a plane out of the country with a return date being optional was a way of life, now that I’ve added kids into the equation those days are long gone.

This is where the plan comes in, and with a plan all trips are possible!

how to travels
Our home away from home in Galveston

I call this the quarterly travel plan.

First you draft your quarters based on every three months and what breaks or special occasion you would like to travel to celebrate.

  • January-March trips
  • April-June trips
  • July-September trips
  • October-December Trips

Second you choose a list of destinations based on local or international, who or what you would like to see and what mode of transportation you want to use. These can be combined, for example take a cruise to a beach, take a train to a region with snow. How to Travels

how to plan & party

  • One snow
  • Three beach destinatis
  • Trip to see family
  • Two international 7hrs or more travel time
  • One train ride
  • One boat excursion
  • One road trip
Family time at Disneyworld

Third, arrange what trip fits what quarter and budget for that time of year after all you don’t want to take your most expensive vacation during a time taxes are due, kids are back to school or holiday season where spending is typically a little higher.  Living in Texas, Mexico is always an option for an all inclusive affordable fun trip.  Be sure to look at all of the travel websites and many of them have a payment plan option.  If you know what your plan is it is easy to make it happen versus waiting until the last minute trying to find something.

Fun with Friends in The Dominican!

Lastly, begin researching and planning your locations! We typically take about 2 international trips a year and explore the US on the weekends.

New years- Greatwolf Lodge Dallas

Valentines Day- New Orleans for our 9 year wedding anniversary

Spring Break-International (planning Paris)

Easter We usually enjoy church and activities around our wonderful city

Memorial Day- to our beach house we go!  This is a really expensive time of year to travel and it brings out a lot of behaviors in a lot of cities I don’t want my kids to see lol

Summer Begins-International The Canary Islands  This is also Kingston, Mila & Shannons birthday month so we will party like its 1999 June 23!!

Fourth of July- To our beach house we go again with lots of friends! This month is our Moms birthday so we will party and possibly take a train ride to Mississippi to see family

Back to School- last beach bash we typically go to Mexico hopefully Cabo again

Fall is beautiful in Henderson Nevada

Thanksgiving and Black Friday 🙂  The beach house has typically been lonely so we spend the week leading up to the big day here#lisaslane

Christmas  I always plan a beach or snow tip for my birthday.  This December we will go to my dream place the Nickelodeon Studios park in Punta Cana Dominican republic super excited and after Christmas a group  of friends and I will take our families to do our annual New Years Eve Party at Greatwolf Lodge.  After we check out of Greatwolf we will re-book for next year thats one plan out of the way.

All Aboard The New Jersey Transit
Oxford, Mississippi mayhem with my sister and I!

Happy Travels From Lisa’s Lane

No Better Time Than Now!

As I hopped up and had my espresso this morning thoughts began racing through my head.  We’re building our new home and there’s a ton of work ahead of us.  Everyone keeps warning us about how much work building is but were pretty well versed on that part of the project, what I find quite daunting is disassembling this house we have spent the last 12 years in.  We have things in every corner of this home and soooooooooo many unfinished projects that stare at me daily.

This morning I decided, were about 1 year away from the completion of our new home so there’s no better time than now to start getting things in order.  I’ve come to find that if I plan and break things down into small tasks, before you know it, those big tasks will be complete.  I like to spend money on pretty things and DIY necessary things so if I paint this house room by room week by week in a years time I will have painted my whole house instead of paying someone a couple thousand dollars (can you say new bag!).  My landscaping has systematically been destroyed by the freeze and bored dogs so instead of the $2000 I was quoted to get it up to par I went and spent $200 on a pallet of grass and flowers and my yard is looking awesome!

I say all of this to say that we all have projects that need to be completed.  Some are in home others are out.  We may need to clean a car, clean a closet, plan a trip, take the first step to owning our own business, buying a new house, hiring a housekeeper, hiring an assistant, making a budget, cleaning your desk, cleaning your closet, cooking that new dish, calling someone you have been meaning to,  learning something new ( I need to learn French so I can know when these kids are talking crazy to us), going to church, volunteering or what ever it is you want to do, there’s no time like the present.

I challenge you to go do something right now that you have been putting off!  You will be amazed at the momentum it creates, and remember start small to accomplish something big!

How to Journal to Start your week

You can’t start something new until the old is gone and your week is no different.  There are seven days in a week, which is a lot of time for events to take place in our lives….the good, the bad and the ugly.   I often find myself on a Sunday night getting frustrated over the simplest things as I look toward my next seven days of events.  I think of all of the people that have ticked me off, all of the things that did not go my way and all of the bad decisions (like this whole box of thin mints I just finished) I wish I could take back.  I always find myself wishing I could resolve these issues and feelings before bed so I won’t have racing thoughts.  lisa's lane

I’ve been told more than once a journal is the key.  So time and time again I would write down my thoughts which eventually turned into a to do list or a budget or a grocery list which left me with all of those racing thoughts about actual events in my life.  Looking forward to a vacation can cause the same types of physical and emotional response as someone breaking up with you or your child acting out.  It’s something you can’t get a handle on and you bottle up the emotions which spill out in the form of stress and anxiety.

After years of wondering how on earth can writing crap down help me process it, I finally found the answer.  I write to my day. Yep you heard me, I write to my day and all of the people and events involved in it.

So for instance…

Dear February 25, 2018,

You were amazing to me.  I woke up to an empty house because everyone was out.  You treated me like a queen for the first five hours but then you began to turn on me.  I went to pick up the kids and there was a minor fender bender that backed traffic up for one whole hour, and to make matters worse I was two miles from my destination.  To you two people involved in the fender bender, I’m really happy you were ok but I am pretty sure you were texting and driving which caused this so I am super annoyed with you for wasting my time I hope your damage was worth that text!  Calloway, why did you dig my lavender plant up?  What possesses you to go for things you know will get you in trouble?  You’re and awesome dog but I’ m really sick of you digging all of my beautiful plants up.  Kingy and Mila you two are the most perfect creations I have ever come to know and I am so blessed that your nana was willing to have a slumber party so daddy and I could have some time together.  Ahhh sweet night time I love you so.  I can’t wait until shower and I meet and then bed.  Its been a really awesome day with a few hiccups but my life is amazing and I wouldn’t change it for the world.  Unless Feb 26 wants to bring the lottery to my house and a driver, chef and full time housekeeper I wouldn’t be angry at all.  Oh and I would really like a shoe budget increase with a side of vacation.

Good night February 25, 2018 I look forward to seeing your sister tomorrow.

This is a great way to process anything.  Write a letter to your past, present or future self.  Write one to a sibling or a family member.  Write a letter to that person that hurt you or that accident that left you scarred.  Write to your past job or to the job you want to have.  When you are talking to a person or a thing you find a way to process your emotions.  You are doing something active toward your emotions and you can go back years from now or even hours and read how you feel.  Reading and writing are two different actions and each action processes information differently.  I chose this topic because I know a lot of us are dealing with feelings we don’t know how to get rid of, but I’ve learned theres no getting rid of there’s just working through.  Thats life so lets deal with the good, the bad and the ugly so we can learn to enjoy more of the good and focus less  on the bad or the ugly!

Break out It’s a Wonderful Life and remember how simple and wonderful life can be if we work on it!

Happiness is yours in Lisa’s Lane!
